Create a Business Page on LinkedIn

You may think that a business page is one more thing to do. You're barely hanging on as it is. And as a small business owner, you are your business, and your business is you. So why do you need another page to manage?

The good news is. You don't have to manage it if you don't want to. You can set it and forget about it. Or you can start posting and engaging as a company. That's up to you. And the benefits far outweigh the time.

A LinkedIn business page:

• establishes credibility. After all, you're building a company, not a pop-up shop

• helps potential customers find you. LinkedIn is not only a social site; it's also a robust database

• automatically adds a page link and logo to your personal profile in the Experience section

• gives you access to data, such as engagement rates, click rates, and more on your business posts

Let's get started.

Bring your LinkedIn business page to life in three steps:

Step 1: Claim It or Create It

• Claim it! LinkedIn may have created a page when you added your business in your profile Experience section. You'll need to claim your page if it exists, but you don't have admin rights yet. To claim your page, follow the instructions here.

• Create it! Set up a new business page. Starting from scratch. Here's the link.

Step 2: Add the Details

You'll need your company name, public LinkedIn URL, and website address. (A website address is not required.) And a few more details.

Step 3: Brand It

Add a logo

The dimensions are 300 x 300. Don't have a logo? Hire a graphic designer. Or create one in Canva. It's simple and free.

★ Brand Tip: Use a brandmark or icon instead of a full logo. In most cases, the display is too small to read the words making it harder to stand out to your customer.

Add your tagline

Don't have a tagline? Find wording that you can reuse from your website or promo copy in your social posts. Keep it on the short side, somewhere between three to 10 words.

★ Brand Tip: Say what you do in simple words and speak directly to your ideal customer. What problem are you solving? How does your service make their life easier?

Hit publish

Celebrate your progress.Yahoo! Now that you've created your page, there are a few more essentials.

A page banner

This image spans across the top of your business page. The dimensions are 1,128 x 191.

★ Brand Tip: Use an image that expresses your brand and aligns with your brand's colors. Here are a few favorite photo sites: Canva, Pixabay, Stocksy, and Social Squares.

★ Bonus Tip: If you add words to your banner, check all devices to see where they display. It's common for text to get covered up depending on the device and page view.

Fill in the About section 

★ Brand Tip: Your company description doesn't have to be complicated—or a novel. Just a few sentences that answer: What you do, how you fix a problem, and the results your clients can expect.

Add Specialties

This is for the search engine. You can add up to 20 specialties that represent your business.

Remember this! You're going for progress over perfection. You can always go back in and update, correct, or smooth over any rough edges.

You did it! You now have a LinkedIn business page.
